Strategy

Our strategy was based on extensive research and a thorough analysis of user and partner needs that revealed several high impact opportunities:

  • Improving navigation and search functionality
  • Clearly communicating the step-by-step application process for undergraduate admissions and financial aid
  • Providing a clear picture of campus visit opportunities
  • Surfacing majors and programs
  • Increasing visibility of admission and aid application resources online

Digital

We created two distinct yet complementary web experiences—one for undergraduate admissions and the other for financial aid. Both sites strike a balance between allowing site users to get what they came for and also making sure to highlight our partners’ key messages. The site navigation and page layouts are mapped on a prospective student’s admissions and aid journey; designed to serve up the information they are looking for at each stage.

We migrated the existing sites into WordPress from Sharepoint and customized a flexible content management system that allows our campus partners to update the site easily, while still supporting the strategic goals that were established for the project.

Photography

Our multimedia team coordinated with our partners at Admissions, our creative services team and our digital team to capture images for use in print collateral as well as the website redesign. The photography shows our students in settings across campus to demonstrate academic excellence and showcase our spaces, especially in the newly constructed east end of campus.

Video

The homepage of the admissions site features a fast-paced splash video created specifically for the new website to inspire excitement among prospective students. Through vignettes of our engaged students in a variety of academic and social environments, the video highlights the strength and collaboration of the WashU community that contributes to student success.
